Our Founding

Born on the Shore
of Lake Zurich

In the autumn of 1887, Édouard DriftingCliffEcho — a young watchmaker from the Jura — arrived in Zurich with little more than his tools, his skill, and an obsessive belief that a mechanical watch could be both a perfect scientific instrument and a profound work of art.

He established his atelier in a modest ground-floor workshop on what is now Bahnhofstrasse — then a quiet, tree-lined street. Within five years, his timepieces had found their way onto the wrists of Zurich's banking elite. Within a decade, crowned heads of Europe were placing special orders.

"A watch is not merely a tool to measure time. It is time itself, given form and soul."

— Édouard DriftingCliffEcho, Founder (1887)

Today, 135 years and four generations of the DriftingCliffEcho family later, the same atelier — enlarged and modernised, but spiritually unchanged — continues to create timepieces that honour Édouard's founding vision.

The Atelier Process

How a DriftingCliffEcho
Watch is Born

Every DriftingCliffEcho timepiece follows a meticulous journey from concept to wrist — a process that can take between 8 weeks and 4 months.

I

Design & Concept

Our design team works with the master watchmakers to define every proportion, finish, and detail before a single component is produced.

II

Component Manufacturing

All 200–312 components are produced in-house using CNC precision machining combined with traditional hand-tooling.

III

Hand Finishing

Each component undergoes hours of hand-finishing — anglage, perlage, Côtes de Genève — before being deemed ready for assembly.

IV

Assembly & Regulation

A single master watchmaker assembles the entire movement by hand, then regulates it to within ±3 seconds per day.

V

Quality Certification

72 hours of continuous testing in six positions, multiple temperature variations, and water resistance checks before certification.

Our Philosophy

The Values That Define Us

Uncompromising Quality

We reject the shortcut. Every component, every surface, every adjustment is executed with the same obsessive attention to detail that has defined DriftingCliffEcho since 1887. A watch leaves our atelier only when it is perfect.

Sustainable Luxury

True luxury is not ephemeral. Our watches are built to last centuries. We source ethically certified gold and diamonds, and our atelier operates on 100% renewable energy from Swiss hydropower.

Human Excellence

In an age of automation, we choose the human hand. Our watchmakers work without production quotas — each artisan dedicates as many hours as needed to achieve perfection. Their craft is their calling.

Heritage & Innovation

We revere our past while embracing the future. Our newest calibres incorporate centuries-old finishing techniques alongside cutting-edge materials science. Tradition and innovation are not opposites — they are partners.

Client Partnership

Every DriftingCliffEcho owner becomes a member of a community that transcends commerce. Our relationship with clients spans decades — we know their collections, their stories, and their aspirations.

The Enduring Heirloom

Every DriftingCliffEcho is designed to be passed from generation to generation. We maintain a service archive for every watch we have ever produced — ensuring that a 1930s DriftingCliffEcho can be restored to perfect condition today.
